Chapter One

“SOLD! To that fine gentleman right there.” The dragon said.

I couldn’t believe it. Out of all of those obviously fake diamonds. I was the one they chose because I’m inside a real one, and not those fakies. Maybe I could finally be freed from this curse. All I need  for them to do now is to throw this cursed object, or maybe I could just shove the wall of this prison out of their talons. I felt relieved and proud that I might finally have a chance. The next moment we came to our house, I wiggled free out of his grasp and fell to the warm stone ground. The gem shattered into a million pieces, and I appeared from thin air. His face was different then I imagined.

“NOOOO,” He panicked, “That cost so much!”

Woops, I might have given him a heart attack. I tried to help him, but he just stood there in horror. I sat him down, and got a weird drink called “TEA.” It tasted good, but he didn’t drink any of it, so I just sat there watching him. He looked overworked! I mean, a diamond’s value was a lot back in my time. Maybe I could help him? So I spun my silk, and made a makeshift blanket. He looked confused at first, but slowly fell asleep when I put it around him. He slept like a hatchling with happy dreams.

I wandered around the place, and found little trinkets, like a quilt-set, a really tiny blanket named Bandages, and threw my teacup in there, too. I found a leather bundle and stuffed it all in there. I walked outside to see the house was in a lush, green cave. The actual house was a sort of a big dome-like structure with tan walls, and scarlet colored tile roofs. I flew towards an overhang with a pond inside. I looked in awe. Is the world as beautiful as here? I thought to myself. I Imagined the outside as an ugly dump, but now it’s probably a wonderland. I glazed up at the opening. As much I wanted to leave, I just couldn’t. I weirdly felt a weight of guilt in my stomach. Then I knew the reason why. The dragon who brought the diamond. He spent all of that money just for it to be destroyed. Then an idea struck me head-on. Since he helped me, I’ll help him! I had a beaming smile on my face.

I dived down into the cottage, and poked him awake. His eyes fluttered after his slumber.

“Why was I sleeping?” He asked, wondering, “Why are you in my house and why do I have a blanket?”

“Oh, I made that for you” I answered astounded, “It’s made from dream silk.”

“Wait what?” He said, “Who even are you?”

“Ummm, Who are you?” I stuttered

“My name’s Parrot,” he replied, “Don’t you have a name?”

I fell into silence at this question and thought, surely I had a name, right? After centuries in that lonely space. I started to lose track about everything. Memories, my friends and family, and everything else in my life gone without a trace. Parrot had a worried look on his face.

“You look like a dragon from a certain fairy tale, named Whisp,” he shared.

“I like that name,” I told him, starting to smile.

With my newfound name, I felt I was already getting used to this life.

A few months later…

After all of those shenanigans, Parrot, and I created a business where I give my dream silk to Parrot. He knit it into little dream catchers. Then we sell them. It gives dragonlings and dragonets happy dreams.

Today was the big opening of an actual shop for us!

“Are you ready?” Parrot asked, “All the kingdom’s queens, and kings are going to be here!”

“Mhm…” I said uncomfortably.

“Also I got a gift for you!” Parrot said as he gave me the diamond necklace I used to be trapped in.

I tap the crystal diamond with my talon. It glows with often bright gleams when I bathe it in sunlight. I then put a shining bright smile on my face, and walked out. Thousands of dragons talked over each other. I didn’t really know how to interview so I left Parrot to deal with them. When I looked at the shop I was dazzled in amazement. It was like a castle in the sky. It was perfect. I dased around the crowded maze to reach it. When I got there I opened the creak-free door. I went into a room with a checkerboard floor, and on the walls are every color imaginable. Swirled so beautifully like a rainbow in the morning dew sky. Then a cold metal arrowhead narrowly misses my snout. I yelp and scramble away, never turning back to see who it was. I desperately tried to find Parrot in the chaos around me. A rain of various weapons fell on me. What was happening? Then I saw him. I rush to him looking for any hints about this. When I least expected it, a dagger pierced the sparkling gem, and smoke started to pour out.

“Well that was quite an entrance I must say,” the figure said.

He was a black dragon with cunning eyes. The type of guy who betrays you in an instant. He looked odd, and somehow familiar. As his tail curled around me like a vine, looking at me with interest.

“Get lost!” Parrot growled as he stood up.

“Excuse me?” he answered

“You heard me!” Parrot glared. “Get. Lost.”

“I see,” he replied coldly

He started to laugh hysterically.  I wanted to do something, but I was struck in fear. Then he snapped his talons, and Parrot collapsed on the floor.

Chapter Two

I couldn’t remember anything after that except screams, dragons shaking each other, and lots of running. All it was to me was panic. I wanted to stay for Parrot, but my will to live was stronger, so I ran. Ran away from my problems, away from my calling to save the day, away from Parrot. Two other dragons were still not asleep for a strange reason, or should I say a hatchling and dragonet.
