My Superpower
by Neil A.
Chomp! I took a bite of a Snickers. It was Halloween, and I just went trick-or-treating. When I finished the bar, I felt a little tingle, which was weird. But I didn’t really care.
The next day, on my way to school, I saw an old lady about to get run over by a bus, and the driver wasn’t even paying attention! I started running towards the lady. I know I won’t make it in time. Why am I even trying? I questioned myself. Suddenly, I felt like I was going faster, like I was moving at the speed of light. Within a fraction of a second, I was already at the spot where the accident was about to happen. The lady was trembling like a leaf. I quickly grabbed her and brought her to the sidewalk. She slowly looked up.
“Thank you, young boy,” she said.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” I replied. Just then, the bus driver came out.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” he mumbled guiltily.
“It’s okay,” the lady told the driver, then she turned towards me and softly insisted, “Oh, you go to school my boy.”
The whole day I pondered, did I actually have superpowers, or was it just me being fast? As I was walking back home, I noticed a guy in the passenger seat of a car, yelling at the police. Immediately, my eyes spotted a bag full of shiny diamonds in the car. Suddenly, I teleported right on top of the car. With one light punch, the roof of the car shattered like a rock being thrown at glass.
“Hey! The roof of the car broke!” the driver told the other thief. Surprisingly, they couldn’t see me.
Had I turned invisible? I asked myself. Suddenly, I started slowing down the 4 wheels with my mind. I had telekinesis! I pressed the brake pedal with my mind. The cops soon reached the car as I got off. When I reached the sidewalk, I turned visible, and started walking home. Just then, it started raining, and a direct strike of a lightning bolt hit me. But I wasn’t affected. Was I immortal? I wondered.
Nobody had a clue that a person was doing all these heroic actions. The next day at school, I enjoyed being a part of rumors without disclosing my secret. From that day onward, I realized I had the superpower to have any power I could desire. I kept helping the world in unimaginable ways. For example, stopping jail breakouts, putting out wildfires, and saving natural resources. I was also able to go back in time to make some positive changes with my superpowers, but that’s a whole different story.
Since that day, I have been wondering how I got these superpowers. Was it the mysterious button in my prior escape room visit, the magical book from the library, or the pyramid-shaped box that had pink and blue rocks that I found in my backyard? Or maybe it was just the tingly Snickers I had on Halloween! What do you think?
